Viktors Vovrusko and Sara Pérez, Champions of the VI Timanfaya Triathlon

Playa Blanca became the epicenter of sport this weekend, celebrating the IX Playa Blanca Handbike Tour and the VI Timanfaya Triathlon.

The Timanfaya Triathlon celebrated its 6th edition under the sun of Playa Blanca. A competition that has been consecrated year after year as a reference in the beginning of the season for this sport lovers.

This sprint triathlon (750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running), was fought until the last race segment on foot, where a group of 6 triathletes marked the rhythm of the head of the race. Victors Vovrusko imposed his rhythm, marked a sufficient advantage to proclaim himself finally winner of the VI Timanfaya Triaahlon, stopping the clock at 00.58.40. The second position was for Víctor Bouzón (00.58.55), while the third step of the podium went to Michael Lavender (00.58.58).

In the women’s category, Sara Pérez, managed to resolve the test with solvency, leading the competition in the three segments and crossing the finish line on 01.07.12, almost 5 minutes ahead of the 2nd qualifier: Amber Rombaut (01.07.12) ). The third place went to Delioma González, who after a great comeback in the race on foot, finished on 01.09.01.

The Handbike Vuelta a Playa Blanca had participants from 19 different nationalities this year.

At 11.00 am on Saturday morning, the individual time trial started in which the handbikers had to start at the Salinas de Janubio to finish at Playa Blanca. Jonas Van de Steene was the winner of the race, completing the 8.5km in 10 minutes and 32 seconds. The podium was completed by Wolfgang Almer (11:08) and Kim Klüiver Christiansen (11:10), occupying the 2nd and 3rd place respectively. In the women’s category, Nadia Schumacher, the only participant, stopped the clock in 14 minutes and 57 seconds.

The handbikers were again the protagonists after finishing the Timanfaya Triathlon with the celebration of La Vuelta a Playa Blanca in Handbike. On this occasion, Jonas Van de Steene, Luis Miguel Marquina, Alexander Gritsch, Wolfgang Almer and Kim Klüiver Christiansen, were the participants who won the most laps with a total of 12 laps to the circuit.
