The swimming trip between the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa takes place annually in the largest marine reserve in Spain, called “The River”; It is considered one of the most popular in the Canary Islands. Year after year, it grows both in participation and in expectation.
It is traditionally celebrated in the second fortnight of the month of September, being able to move to the first fortnight of October, depending on «the tides».
-The departure is from the «Playa Bajo el Risco» in Lanzarote to the goal that is located on the ramp of the dock of Caleta de Sebo in La Graciosa.
-All activity is concentrated in the dock of Caleta de Sebo (La Graciosa), where the parade, collective warming and access to the organization’s boats take place to jointly transfer all participating swimmers to the starting line located at the beach «Bajo El Risco» in Lanzarote.
2,600 meters separate the starting line from the island of Lanzarote and the goal on the beach of the town of the island of La Graciosa, and that is the distance that all participants must swim to join both islands in an arm of water called the River . The large currents that exist in that space, Marine Reserve, make every year a real luxury to get places for the great demand.

This Marine Reserve enjoys particularly strong currents, and due to high demand, every year only the lucky few get a place.
